J-P. Albouy*, B. Pelissier And E. Castany
(Montpellier, France)
Daily practice places the clinician in decision making positions that are often related to difficult therapeutic choices. Direct pulp capping is one of those, because the success of the procedure is in direct relation to the seal of the cavity the use of a dentin bonding agent seems appropriate. Yet several elements of the procedure have to be under close control to acheive success. Therefore, a step by step technique of the clinical procedure, necessary to predictably realize a direct pulp capping using a dentin bonding agent will be illustrated, from the systematic use of the rubber dam, up to the choice of the material for the final restoration. Also a predictable caries removal and control of the bleeding are critical. Clinical examples will be given to illustrate the protocol and the various therapeutic options. Emphasis will be made on the most crucial steps to success. Finally a prospective clinical study for long term follow up of these cases will be also outlined, as well as the preliminary results.
